An amazing Christmas Lights Cruise on the Jet Boat.

Every year, during the month of  December only, the waterfront properties of Mooloolaba, Minyama, and Buddina create a wonderful Christmas light spectacle. The reality is that this is viewable only from the water. All of this is as part of the now famous Mooloolaba Christmas light parade. A parade in which up to 100 boats compete for the prize of best Christmas boat light display. Properties owners along the waters edge compete for the prize of best presented display as well. Each year they clearly pull out all stops to have a shot at first prize!

You can now jump aboard Hela-Va Jet for a 90 minute (one and a half hours) gentle cruise and experience the wonderful Christmas Lights on offer on many of the waterfront properties along the Mooloolah River and canals.
Our jet powered vessel, with its shallow draft and ability to do slow on the spot spin-turns, lets us access the canals larger boats just cannot attempt.
With no more than 12 passengers at any time, you will always enjoy total visibility of the lights.

This cruise offers a very special and personal experience out on the protected calm inland waters. With amazing views of the absolutely amazing efforts made by the property owners.  We guarantee you will enjoy a delightful and fun experience. Ideal for families and young children too!

Also available is the the opportunity to be part of the Christmas light Boat parade!   Hela-Va Jet will be entered into the contest, and you can be aboard as we participate in the very exclusive parade. Only one such cruise and 12 seats a year! This trip last approximately 3 hours!!

Light refreshments and non alcoholic drinks are included. Alcohol can be brought on a BYO basis, but No red Wine.

1

Departure details

Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes PRIOR to your noted departure time. We would hate for the tour to depart on time should you be late and we have not heard from you! Depending on the departure time you may need to ensure you have enough time to find a car park. The skipper will collect you from the entrance to the Sunreef store which is located directly opposite the pontoon from which we depart.
Please do not wait on the pontoon itself as the skipper will be mooring the vessel on its arrival and we safety is paramount for all.
2

Arrival of the boat

Once securely and safely moored, the skipper will come and get you from the meeting spot at the entrance to Sunreef and take you to the pontoon in preparation to board the vessel. He will take a picture of your group with the boat for a memento should you like it.
3

Registering

Although we are not  heading out to sea and just staying in the River and canals, each and every person coming aboard must sign in on the vessel’s passenger register, and be marked off the manifest by our crew. To this end the skipper will provide the passenger log for you to complete. Our passenger log also doubles as the indemnity waiver. Have a balance to pay for the day? This is where and when you do that part too.
4

Boarding

From here it’s boarding time. The skipper will discuss the differences between seating locations (We prefer children in the centre seats for obvious reasons) and once decisions have been made as to who will sit where begin boarding from the rear to the front. He will be assisting in adjusting the seatbelts to best suit each person. We should not need them, but always best to be prepared.
5

Safety First

As required by maritime legislation, the skipper will have to do a safety briefing before we depart. Much like on a plane any time you fly, we do need your attention for the couple of minutes it takes. We all hope and expect the information we are providing never to be needed, but its always best to be forewarned and prepared.
6

Pushing off

You will already be seated, and the doors will still be open for this cruise. The skipper will “throw” the mooring lines and head off towards the first lights. The Mooloolah river is restricted to a top speed of 6 knots, and the canal to just 4 knots, both which allows you to take in the beautiful waterfront properties and amazing light displays. Departure times are set so that we are pushing off as the sun sets. This to give you the full impact of the lights which of course look best after the sun has set.
7

Small or tight canals

Hela-Va Jet can access areas of the canal system other passenger boats simply cannot even consider going. The ability to spin on the spot as well as maneuver sideways makes it possible to get in and out of any area safely.
8

The lights

We only really run our Christmas Light tours in December. The lights tend to be switched on on December 1st, and switched off straight after New Years Eve.
9

Food and drinks

We will have some water and sift drinks aboard for you, as well as light nibbles. Feel free to bring alcohol with you if you so desire. No red wine please (Those stains from spill are just too hard to remove). You will need to take any cans or bottles you bring along, back with you after departing. Remember, there is no toilet on a jet boat!!
10

Return

All good things must come to an end. We try to keep the return trip as short as possible to give us as much time viewing the lights as possible. On average the return trip takes about 10 minutes all up.
11

Back home

As we moor the vessel  the doors of course remain open. This does NOT mean you can leave the vessel when you like. Please wait until instructed by the skipper to exit the vessel and if needed he will assist you to disembark the vessel.

The Wharf Mooloolaba (Sunreef Pontoon) – Located between Sunreef and the Wharf Tavern,
Cnr River Esplanade and Parkyn Parade Mooloolaba Qld.

We depart from the “The Wharf” The Sunreef Pontoon. (Pontoon is located between Sunreef and the Wharf Tavern).

For a GPS use 1 Parkyn Parade Mooloolaba Qld.

Once parked please wait at the entrance to Sunreef until instructed by the store crew or skipper that it is safe to come down the ramp and board the vessel.

“Family trip that was nothing short of perfect.”
Reviewed on Facebook 26th December
Amazing how a last minute decision to do something can sometimes be the highlight of your holiday. Our kids are too young for a thrill ride, but had found the picture of the boat in the hotel room. When I enquired if they were able to do the run (they are too small) Paddy suggested the Christmas Lights cruise instead.
The skipper was awesome, the boat is amazing and the Christmas light displays the people of the Sunshine Coast put up are out of this world! We really loved the fact we could get into the smaller sections of the canals where you felt super special (Nobody else doing this sort of trip can get in there!), and the kids had a ball just being on the race like boat! There was even some drinks and food for all of us! This is a trip you have to do! It may be the thing that keeps bring us back to the Sunshine Coast!
Thanks guys and I will be spreading the word for you!

So glad I found this tour! Without doubt the only way to go and see the Xmas lights the Sunshine Coast residents do every year! Next time I want to do it and be aboard this jet boat for the boat parade trip too! Worth every cent! See you next year!!
