Kayak Fishing tour with guide.

Why not try your hand at the rapidly growing sport of kayak fishing?! Guided kayak fishing tours are the ideal way to experience the beautiful local estuaries of the Sunshine Coast, all with the added help of an experienced local

guide. Not only will you get to fish these pristine waters in a lightweight and very stable kayak, you will be given expert assistance to learn the finer nuances of the different techniques and methods you are able to make use of fishing this way. Our kayaks use lightweight oars to avoid snagging on shallow areas or underwater obstructions which can often severely damage the “pedal-style” propulsion of high end kayaks. Our goal is to have you to fish areas accessible by kayak. Because those locations have minimal “fishing Pressure” or competition.

There are so many fish species to target in the Sunshine Coast estuary waters. Bream, whiting, flathead, tailor, trevally, jew, mangrove jack and even Barramundi are just some of the species which you might catch on this adventure.

You certainly do not need any experience as or guide is there to assist and help you get the hang of thing quickly and easily. In fact we believe you will enjoy your trip so much you will be wanting to do this again and again. Thats the main reason we GIVE you a BRAND NEW JAPANESE ROD AND REEL ESTUARY COMBO!

Tairo Kayak Rod and Reel
The Free Rod and Reel for every Sunshine Coast Afloat Kayak Fishing Customer

This combo, which you will use as part of your kit for the day, is yours to take with you at the end of the tour! The RRP of this set alone means you actually walk away with gear worth more than the cost of the trip!!! Yours to use again and again wherever and whenever you want.

Kayak fishing is the real deal. Once you try it you will understand immediately why it is growing so rapidly in popularity! So give us a call (or book online) and see what all the fuss is about!

1

Departure

Please arrive 20 to 30 minutes PRIOR to your noted departure time. The Kayak tours will depart on time should you be late and we have note heard from you!
  • Ensure you have enough time to find a car park if needed.
  • Please DO NOT bring empty eskies aboard the kayaks. The guide will bag your fish for you so that you can take them to your car and easily place them in a waiting esky there. (Have some ice in the esky).
  • Your guide will prepare the kayaks for you in advance.
2

Registering

Every person on the tour must sign in on the tour register, and be marked off by the guide. To this end see the guide and he will indicate the tour log for you to complete. Have a balance to pay for the day? This is where and when you do that part too.
3

Relax

Once the paperwork has been done, get yourself acquainted with the kayaks. Maybe even choose one (the guide may appoint one for you in certain situations) and have a look about it to get comfortable for the trip ahead.
4

Safety First

As required by maritime legislation, the guide will have to do a safety briefing before we hit the water. Much like on a plane, any time you fly, we do need your attention for the couple of minutes this takes. This will cover areas such as use of the life jackets, staying in a group and what to do should you fall off your kayak (it does happen). A demonstration of how to push off and control your kayak is also part of this briefing.
5

Pushing off

The guide will assist each person with getting the kayak in the water and getting on to the kayak. From there he will take the lead and head off to the first fishing location.
6

The first fishing spot

The guide will always try to have the first location as close as possible to the departure point. The goal is between 10 and 15 minutes of paddling, but this does of course also depend on the groups paddling abilities. Once arrived at the location the guide will demonstrate how to set up the rods you have aboard for lures and bait, and demonstrate casting. Casting is a skill that is easily learnt with the correct instruction, but takes time and practice to master. Your ability to cast accurately and effectively, directly impacts on your success in catching fish in this environment. Don’t despair as mastering the casting side is all part of the fun!
7

More fishing

On a 4Hr tour the guide will normally select up to 5 locations. Depending on the success and conditions he will regularly move from one location to the next, each time indicating if a lure change and or technique is recommended for the fish targeted there.
8

Last location

The guide will advise the group of the moment the last location has been reached on the tour. He will always try to avoid a lengthy return paddle to the departure point so you should end up with about 3.5hrs of actual fishing time (not taking into account the time spent between locations). With about 15 to 20 minutes to go it will be time to pack up the lines and start the return journey back to the beach departure point.
9

Return

Once back at the beach all we ask is you carefully pull the kayak up onto the sand far enough that it cannot drift off on its own. The guide will do the packing up. Before that he will distribute any fish he has been asked to hold according to the tags on those fish. He will also ensure you take your free Rod and reel and remaining lures with you (the very same brand new rod and reel you have been using on your tour!). All you need to do is put everything in your car and head off . The guide will do everything else!

“Guided kayak fishing fun”
Reviewed on Trip Advisor 3rd October via mobile
Had the great fortune to be guided around the Mooloolah river looking for fish by Brian of Sunshine Coast Afloat. Great kayak setup- stable, comfortable, excellent gear and even a snack pack and cold water thrown in. The fishing was fun- excellent instruction and heaps of tips and tricks to take away with me. I appreciated Brian’s understanding of the local area and his commitment to fishing responsibly. You’re sent home with a rod and all the right tackle to be ready to go. Highly recommend this tour- a morning out I’ll be talking about for a while!
