The Mooloolaba Kayak Safari, with guide and seafood.

Explore and discover Mooloolaba’s waterways, by day or twilight with this Kayak Safari. This is a fun experience where our kayak guide will take you on a 90 minute journey, highlighting the amazing history and waterfront destinations along the river and canals. Then once we are back from our journey a delightful seafood meal will be awaiting your to enjoy!

A Kayak safari on calm protected waterways lets you see things from a different perspective.  Unwind after a busy week, relax and enjoy the myriad views Mooloolaba has to offer.  Stop along the way for a chat and photo moment – it’s all part of the fun in this 90 minute guided tour.

You don’t have to be an experienced paddler to get out and discover our surroundings.

Our experienced kayak instructor will give you an overview before you paddle off on your own kayak adventure.

Your Day or Twilight guided kayak tour begins at our location behind Bridge Seafood Restaurant, in Mooloolaba.  Travel past the mansions on Mooloolah Island, past the Mooloolaba Yacht Club and down to the commercial Fisheries area (fantastic at dusk!).  On the way back we pass The famous Mooloolaba Wharf with its many restaurants and bars, and then make our way past the many anchored yachts in the area locals refer to as “the duck pond”.

By the time you have returned to the departure point you will most likely have worked up an appetite which you can satisfy with the included fresh seafood meal waiting for you at one of Mooloolaba’s most established and well known seafood restaurants.

This is a fun tour suited to anyone with a reasonable degree of fitness and sense of adventure! Who  knows, this might even wet your appetite for our other kayaking offerings such as kayak fishing, or our kayak hire!

1

Getting here

Please arrive 20 to 30 minutes PRIOR to your noted departure time. The Kayak tours will depart on time should you be late and we have not heard from you!
  • Ensure you have enough time to find the car park if you are unfamiliar with the area.
  • Your guide will have prepared the kayak(s) for you in advance.
2

Registering

Every person on the tour must sign in on the tour register, and be marked off by the guide. To this end see the guide and he will indicate the tour log for you to complete. Have a balance to pay for the day? This is where and when you do that part too.
3

Relax

Once the paperwork has been done, get yourself acquainted with the kayaks. Your guide will appoint one for you. Have a look about it to get comfortable for the trip ahead.
4

Safety First

As required by maritime legislation, your guide will have to do a safety briefing before we hit the water. Much like on a plane, any time you fly, we do need your attention for the couple of minutes this takes. This will cover areas such as use of the life jackets, staying in a group and what to do should you fall off your kayak (it does happen on the rare occasion). A demonstration of how to push off and control your kayak is also part of this briefing.
5

Pushing off

The guide will assist each person with getting the kayak in the water and getting on to the kayak. From there he will take the lead and head off to the various locations on your tour.
6

The tides

The direction and strength of the tides in the rivers and canals will vary with each tour. Remember, even if you have a strong tide heading out it just makes the return trip easier! Conversely, if you are finding the going really easy heading out initially, conserve some energy as the return trip may require a bit more paddling. Its all part of the experience and your guide will make you aware of all of the factors and more.
7

The furthest point

On this 90 min tour the guide will take you very close to the river mouth, where the commercial fishing fleet, Coast Guard, water police, and pilot vessels operate. Most people are truely amazed and how busy this area can be, and after sunset its really magical with most areas well lit to enable 24 hour work to happen!
9

Return

Once back at the departure point all we ask is you patiently wait aboard the kayak until the guide calls you up to disembark. The guide will assist you with this (one at a time) and ensure your kayak and paddle are all safely secured as well. From there your job is simple. Head up to the restaurant to enjoy your meal! The guide will do everything else!
